OPERA 4 is a quartet of improvisors that includes a collection of Swiss musicians - Sabina Meyer, Esther Flueckiger, Hans Koch and Paed Conca. Their sound is strongly influenced by a traditional jazz formation of woodwinds, bass, singer, and pianist.
The dialogue between the four musicians who cross a wide range of expressive modes and very different musical paths - from classical music to rock, from baroque to radical improvistaion - are adressed and developed live in real time. An unusual musical ensemble—piano, clarinets, electric basses, and vocals— capable of creating an emotional climax that captures the audience's attention.
Meyer sings wordless notes, not scatting as much as vocal poetry, if their was no such thing as language.
OPERA 4 elaborates an intimate psychedelia in a continuous ecstatic intertwining of consonance and dissonance.
